SHELBOURNE returned to top form in a comfortable away win in Athlone.
Athlone Town 0 Shelbourne 2
GOALS early and late from Conan Byrne and Philly Hughes moved Shelbourne seven points clear at the top of the First Division table.
Shels wasted no time in putting last week’s dramatic home defeat to Limerick behind them as they took the lead on three minutes. Brendan McGill crossed to the back post where fellow wide man Byrne arrived to fire past Michael Schlingermann.
Shels continued to dominate much of the possession as Athlone were reduced to ten men on 69 minutes when defender Paul Danaher was sent off for a bad challenge.
Hughes then sealed the win with a headed second goal on 85 minutes.
Finn Harps 2 Salthill Devon 0
STEPHEN O'DONNELL embellished a man-of-the-match display with a brace of goals to give Finn Harps a deserved win over bottom side Salthill Devon at Ballybofey.
Harps had the best opening of the first half on 33 minutes when Kevin McHugh set-up O’Donnell who wasn’t too far off target with a crisply struck drive.
Midfielder O’Donnell struck for the lead goal eight minutes into the second half, scoring with a close range header from Kevin Devaney’s free-kick.
O’Donnell added his second on 88 minutes when putting the finishing touch to a flowing Harps attack.
