Gearoid Morrissey scored one and made two more as Cork bounced back well from their FAI Ford Cup exit to St. Patrick’s Athletic to keep their push for promotion on track with victory in the Munster derby at the RSC.

Mid-table Blues began well with Gary Keane spotting Mark McNulty off his line on five minutes, but the striker’s 30-yard lob came back off the Cork bar.

City gradually got on top and took the lead two minutes before the break with a fine goal.

Midfielder Morrissey initially won the ball off Michael Coady, worked a one-two with Davin O’Neill before firing past keeper Kevin Burns at the second attempt after the keeper parried his first effort.

Morrissey then turned provider, setting up topscorer Cummins to rifle home the second goal three minutes into the second half.

Cummins sealed the win with his second of the night when heading home Morrissey’s cross on 76 minutes.

Willie John Kiely got a goal back for Waterford three minutes later.

The win moves Cork back up to second in the table.
