NOEL McGEE'S double secured a victory for Athlone against local rivals Longford Town at Flancare Park.

NOEL McGEE'S two early first half goal saw Athlone bounce back admirably from their 7-0 trouncing to Cork City last week to win the midlands derby at Flancare Park.

Against the general run of play, McGee struck first on six minutes when converting Kevin Williamson’s cross.

It got worse for Town on 17 minutes when keeper Paul Hunt was sent off for hauling down McGee who then shot the resultant spot kick past reserve keeper Noel Cullen.

WATERFORD came from a goal down to win at Drom as Devon finished with ten men.

James Whelan put bottom side Devon in front on 38 minutes with the best goal seen at the venue this season.

The striker broke from his own half, held off several challenges before shooting past Kevin Burns in the Blues’ goal.

Waterford levelled just before the hour mark when Adam McSherry’s free-kick from 20 yards beat Ronan Burke.

Five minutes later Blues turned the game their way with the lead goal from Paul Murphy who shot home from the right edge of the area.

Central defender Kenny Browne sealed Blues' win on 79 minutes when scrambling the ball to the net in a crowded goalmouth.

Devon then had substitute Paul Smyth sent off three minutes from the end of normal time.
