Shels beat Longford to stretch lead
Saturday, 13 August 2011 23:10
Longford Town 1 Shelbourne 3

SHELBOURNE bounced back in fine fashion from the mauling at Cork City last week to win well at Flancare Park and move nine points clear at the top of the First Division table.
Goal-getting midfielder David Cassidy shot home left-back Lorcan Fitzgerald's cross to put Shels in front on 25 minutes.
Town hit back to level virtually from the restart, though, with Don Cowan converting Austin Skelly's pass.
But an own goal restored Shels lead three minutes before the break when defender Des Hope headed a Cassidy cross past his own keeper Paul Hunt.
Conan Byrne then sealed Shels' win with their third goal on the hour, scooping home the rebound after Hunt had saved from Town old boy Stephen Paisley.

A STUNNING winner from Denis Behan saw Limerick come from behind to take all three points from Ballybofey.
Recent signing Behan, who scored his first goals for the club last week, rifled a brilliant 35-yard free-kick into the roof of the net just on the hour
mark for what proved the winner.
Shane Tracy fired Limerick into a tenth minute lead with a 25 yard drive after being set up by Rory Gaffney.
But Harps had levelled on 25 minutes when Marc Brolly pounced to finish after Limerick failed to clear a free-kick.
Limerick blew a chance to regain the lead on 42 minutes when Peter Hynes was taken down by Brolly inside the area. But Ciaran Gallagher brilliantly saved Tracy's spot kick.

TWO own goals helped Mervue record their biggest win of the season as they beat local rivals Salthill on their own patch at Drom.
Mervue led from the 28rd minute when Peter Dravins was given a simple tap in after Devon keeper Ronan Forde's attempted clearance came off defender James Whelan.
Paddy Quinlan then put through his own goal five minutes later as he swung at Dravins' shot.
Right-back David O'Brien ended the game as a contest with the third goal on 65 minutes when his shot from a tight angle beat Forde.
Eugene Greaney then also put through his own goal when his glancing header from a Pat Hoban shot flew into the net.
Mervue had substitute Noel Varley sent off two minutes from time for a deliberate handball.
But they then added a fifth goal in the second minute of added time when Jason Molloy beat Forde from a free-kick just on the edge of the area.
