Longford Town 1 Cork City 3
Â
A brace of goals from loanee Daryl Horgan secured the three points for Cork City at Flancare Park to see them regain second place in the First Division table.
Youth international midfielder Horgan, on loan from Sligo Rovers, was credited with the lead goal on 16 minutes when getting the final touch after Graham Cummins had flicked on a corner.
Town levelled in first half stoppage time when Mark Salmon slotted home a penalty after Gavin Kavanagh had fouled Don Cowan inside the area.
Cork regained the lead in controversial circumstances ten minutes into the second half when Horgan, looking offside, ran through to score his second.
Town defender Gary Cronin was sent off for dissent by referee Sean Grant.
Gearoid Morrissey then sealed the win for Cork when volleying home their third goal on 72 minutes.
Next up sees Cork host Shelbourne in a top of the table clash at Turner’s Cross on August 5th.
