Finn Harps 0 Shelbourne 3
Â
Conan Byrne and Philly Hughes both scored to make it 18 goals between them this season as Shels made it eight wins on the spin to extend their lead at the top of the First Division table to ten points.
Â
Shels started positively and Harps’ keeper Ciaran Gallagher had to make two saves to deprive Hughes inside the opening 12 minutes.
Â
A long-range effort from Stephen O’Donnell tested Dean Delaney at the other end before Shels got their lead five minutes before the break.
Hughes ran clear onto a Gareth Matthews' ball to square it for Byrne to shoot home.
Â
A terrific shot from Hughes, which hit the top corner of Gallagher’s net, doubled Shels' lead on 78 minutes to seal the points.
Â
Midfielder David Cassidy added a third goal on 84 minutes when scooping home the rebound after Gallagher could only parry away a shot from Byrne.
Salthill Devon 0 Longford Town 1 Bottom of the First Division Salthill came within minutes of earning their first point in seven games only to ship a late goal at Drom.
Â
With two minutes of normal time to play, and the game scoreless, a scramble in the home box resulted in Town midfielder Craig Walsh firing to the Devon net.
Â
Paul McGee’s Devon played well throughout but blew their chances, most notably when missing a penalty after just eight minutes.
Â
Town defender Graham Dowling hauled down Enda Dunne, but Victor Collins fired his spot kick wide.
Â
Striker Collins wasted another chance minutes later when blazing over the bar following good player by Dunne and Emmet Shaw.
Â
Don Cowan ought then to have put Town in front on 22 minutes, but shot wide after being put through one-on-one with home keeper Ronan Forde.
Â
But Devon were well in the game and midfielder Eugene Greaney headed a Dunne corner against the Town bar midway through the second half before the cruel sting in the tail for the home side.
Â
Â
Athlone Town 0 Limerick  FC 1
Â
A defensive mix-up gifted new-look Limerick all three points at Lissywollen.
The visitors’ boss Pat Scully gave debuts to new signings Shaun Maher, Joe Gamble and Denis Behan, but they found it hard to make their mark in a generally scrappy game.
The only arrived on 71 minutes when Town keeper Brian Collopy misjudged a back pass to gift substitute Sean Brosnan a simple tap in.
