Monaghan United 1 Mervue United 2 Despite dominating for long spells, promotion-chasing Monaghan suffered a damaging home defeat as they were undone by two own goals at Gortakeegan. Defender Paul Whelan slid a cross from Rory Gaffney into his own net to gift Mervue the lead on 16 minutes. David Byrne had Monaghan level ten minutes later when he rifled home John Reilly's cross. But midfielder Eric Foley turned the ball into his own net on 63 minutes to give Mervue all three points.
Waterford United 0 Wexford Youths 1 Ben Ryan scored his third goal in four games to win the southwest derby as Waterford slumped to a second defeat on the spin. The only goal of the game at the RSC came as early as the 12th minute. Ex-Youths skipper Conor Sinnott was booked for a foul on the edge of his area. Ryan provided further punishment by firing the free-kick round the wall and past keeper Kevin Burns and into his net. |
