Athlone Town 2-0 Wexford Youths  Recent signings Mark Sherlock and Jason Hughes provided the goals as Athlone beat Wexford Youths at Lissywollen.  Striker Sherlock gave Town the lead on 59 minutes with a close range finish.  Three minutes later midfielder Hughes finished from Dave Ryan's pass following a scramble in the Youths' area.  A third penalty in successive games, and his sixth goal in four games, from Philly Hughes won Shelbourne the top of the table clash at Gortakeegan.  The win edges Alan Mathews' Reds' seven points clear at the top of the table and, crucially, ten clear of third.  The only goal came as early as the 12th minute when Monaghan goalkeeper Gabriel Sava was punished for a push and Hughes shot home the spot kick.   Limerick FC 2-0 Mervue United  Goals late in each half from Paudie Quinn and Garbhan Coughlan moved Limerick up into third place in the First Division table.  Attacking midfielder Quinn struck for the lead goal on 34 minutes when his stunning 30-yard shot screams in off the underside of the crossbar.  Substitute Coughlan sealed the win on 87 minutes when he latched onto Peter Hynes header to shot past Ger Hanley.   Waterford United 1-0 Longford Town  Paul Murphy scored the only goal of the game to give Waterford a third win on the spin.  That came on 73 minutes when Murphy was taken down by Paddy Collins following a surging run.  Striker Murphy sent Town keeper Paul Hunt the wrong way from the spot. |
