Cork City 2 Waterford United 3 Cork boss Tommy Dunne said in the build up to this game that Waterford had been the best side they had played this season. The Blues duly came to Turner's Cross and proved it by ending Cork's unbeaten start to the season to give themselves hope of mounting a promotion challenge in the second half of the campaign. An own goal from Michael Coady gifted Cork the lead three minutes into the second half when he deflected a Danny Murphy cross into his own net. Blues levelled seven minutes later when Dwayne Wilson punished a slip by Cork keeper Mark McNulty, who dropped Seamus Long's cross, to tap home. Connor Sinnott put Waterford in front three minutes after that from a penalty after he was taken down by Derek O'Brien. But Graham Cummins scored a penalty at the other end on 67 minutes to put Cork level. Waterford weren't to be denied, though, and they won it on 78 minutes when Paul Walsh shot home from Coady's superb cross.
Shelbourne 2 Athlone Town 0 Goals from Kevin Dawson and a Philly Hughes penalty moved Shelbourne seven points clear at the top of the First Division table - for 24 hours at least. Midfielder Dawson struck for the lead goal on 18 minutes. David Cassidy and Chris Mulhall combined in a swift counterattack following an Athlone corner. The ball was fed to Conan Byrne who beat keeper Michael Schlingermann to give Dawson a simple tap in. Schlingermann then hauled down Mulhall to give away a 66th minute penalty which Hughes duly dispatched.
Wexford Youths 2 Limerick FC 3 Limerick bounced back from last week's home defeat to leaders Shelbourne with a win, but they had to work their socks off to get it at Ferrycarrig Park. Jeffrey Judge headed home Paudie Quinn's cross to give Limerick the lead on 33 minutes. Quinn then doubled that two minutes before the interval when heading in David O'Leary's cross. But Youths hit back six minutes into the second half when Ben Ryan's corner evaded everyone to enter the net. Ryan then equalised on 76 minutes with a header from a free kick. But in a cruel twist just two minutes later Craig Wall deflected a cross into his own net to give Limerick the three points.
