Limerick FC 0 Shelbourne 3

SHELBOURNE stretched their lead at the top of the First Division table to four points with a big win at Jackman Park.

Suspension and injury hit Limerick finished with ten men as their promotion hopes took a knock as they now slip seven points behind Shels with a game more played.

Shels took the lead five minutes before the interval when midfielder David Cassidy headed home Gareth Matthews' superb cross.

Limerick's hopes weren't helped when defender John Frost was sent off for a second booking on 74 minutes.

Six minutes later Philly Hughes shot home a penalty to double Shels' lead after he had been hauled down by Corie Treacy.

Conan Byrne sealed the points a minute from time when scoring for the fifth match in succession after a good run and cross by Chris Mulhall.

Monaghan United 1 Cork City 1

TEN MAN Cork City came from behind to earn a point at Gortakeegan to maintain their unbeaten record and stay second in the table.

A wonderful goal from a free-kick by Sean Brennan put Monaghan in front after ten minutes.

But Vinny Sullivan had Cork level just before the half hour when he fired home following a scramble in the Monaghan box.

Cork's Gavin Kavanagh was then sent-off on 59 minutes for a bad tackle on Ryan Brennan.

Mark McNulty made a terrific save from Sean Brennan minutes later as Cork then held out for a big point.

Mervue United 3 Wexford Youths 0

TOM KING scored twice as Mervue bounced back superbly from their 4-0 defeat at leaders Shelbourne last week to record their biggest win of the season.

Mervue scored twice inside a minute early in the second half to take a stranglehold on the game.

First Noel Varley headed past Packie Holden on 54 minutes. A minute later King punished a defensive error to make it 2-0.

King then got his second to seal the points on 75 minutes when converting David Goldbey's cross.

Waterford United 4 Salthill Devon 0

ADAM McSHERRY scored twice as Waterford finally found their scoring touch to record their biggest win of the season against bottom side Salthill.

Midfielder Dwayne Wilson broke Devon's resistance on 42 minutes when heading home Conor Sinnott's cross.

McSherry doubled the lead on 58 minutes with his first of the night, and first for the club, after good work by the prodigal Paul Walsh.

Two goals inside a minute wrapped up the points four minutes from time.

Striker Paul Murphy got the third goal with a volley from long-range.

Just 27 second later, McSherry got his second when played in on goal by Sinnott.
