DON COWAN scored a first half goal to help Longford Town to the three points against Waterford United in the First Division.

Don Cowan’s well-taken first half winner moved Longford up to fourth in the table as promotion hopefuls Waterford slumped to a third defeat of the season.Â
With Keith Gillespie making his first start, Town edged the first half and were good value for what proved their matchwinning half-time lead.
That came on 41 minutes when striker Cowan stole the ball off Blues’ defender Kenny Browne to rifle a shot past Kevin Burns from the edge of the area.
Town then might have doubled their lead four minutes into the second half.
Austin Skelly, who’d cracked a shot off the crossbar early in the first half, headed against a post.
It took a deflated Blues 75 minutes to trouble the Town goal. Paul Murphy shot against the bar with Town keeper Paul Hunt saving superbly from Gary Keane’s follow-up. |
