SHELBOURNE'S 100 per cent record was brought to a halt at Tolka Park after a late Pauric Quinn equaliser for Limerick in a tight First Division clash. Shelbourne 1 Limerick FC 1 A 90th minute equaliser from Pauric Quinn deprived Shelbourne of victory as all the action came late at Tolka Park. Philly Hughes appeared to have maintained Shels 100% record when finally breaking the deadlock on 86 minutes, the striker turning adroitly inside to box to to shoot past Barry Ryan to score a poacher's goal. But Limerick have been a bogey side for Shels in recent years and, just like they did in depriving Shels of promotion in 2008, they hit a late leveller. Shels failed to clear and, following a scramble in the box, midfielder Quinn shot home. Shelbourne remain a point clear at the top of the table. Cork City 2 Monaghan United 2 CORK CITY twice came form behind to deprive Roddy Collins of victory on his return to Turner's Cross. Declan "Fabio" O'Brien scored twice on his Monaghan debut, the opening on six minutes when he dived to head home Shane Grimes' cross. But Cork levelled on 24 minutes with a header from last season's topscorer Graham Cummins from a Georiod Morrissey cross. O'Brien struck again to restore Monaghan's lead on the hour mark. Cork deserved something from the game, though, and Davin O;'Neill capped a fine display when his shot deflected to the net past Gabriel Sava on 83 minutes. Wexford Youths 3 Mervue United 5 RORY GAFFNEY hit a brace as Mervue got their second win of the season as Youths slumped to a fourth successive defeat. Gaffney struck for the lead on 12 minutes with a cracking strike, controlling the ball on his chest and turning a defender before shooting past keeper Packie Holden. Gaffney was there again on the half hour to double Mervue's lead when he was put through to shoot home. Youths got a goal back through David Grincell seven minutes before half-time, totally against the run of play. Danny Furlong then levelled the match on 66 minutes from a penalty. But Tom King fired Mervue back in front within three minutes before Jason Molloy added a fourth a minute later. Furlong hit a cracking volley to pull a thrid goal back for youths on 75 minutes, but Mike Tierney sealed Mervue's win with their fifth goal of the night three minutes form time. |
