| Roddy Collins starts Monaghan reign with a win |

Monaghan United  2  Waterford United  0  Roddy Collins got Monaghan's promotion push up and running at the first time of asking as goals from his son-in-law to be Alan Byrne and John Reilly beat Waterford at Gortakeegan.  Byrne struck for the opener on 33 minutes when reacting well to steer home the rebound after several attempts following Ryan Brennan's shot coming back off a post.  Reilly sealed the win two minutes from time when his shot squirmed past Blues' keeper Kevin Burns and into the net.  Limerick  3  Salthill Devon  0  Two goals from Shane Tracy and a third from Peter Hynes earned Limerick a big home win to put them top of the First Division table.  Tracy struck as early as the opening minute to put Pat Scully promotion hopefuls in front from a 25-yard free-kick.  Two minutes before the break, Tracy doubled that lead when turning home Stephen McGann's cross.  Striker Hynes got the third with a terrific 20-yard drive to the net in the 63rd minute.    Mervue United  1  Cork City  1  Mervue United came from behind to earn a point to christen their first league game at their home of Fahy's Field.  An own goal from Eric Browne, from all of 25 yards past keeper Ger Hanley, gifted Cork the lead three minutes into the second half.  But Johnny Glynn's side hit back to thrill the home crowd with an equaliser on 75 minutes when Mike Tierney headed home Dan Cunningham's cross.  Wexford Youths  0  Longford Town  2  Goals from Jaques Morley and Don Cowan got Longford's season up and running as Youths suffered a second defeat.  Cathal Brady was the instigator of both Town goals, setting up Morley for the opener six minutes into the second half.  Packie Holden could only parry Brady's cross and Morley  finished from close in.  Brady was there again with an assist for Town's second strike on 72 minutes, this time setting up Cowan who beat Holden from 20 yards.  |
