Biography

Eddie Gormley was appointed to the position of manager at Bray Wanderers in September 2006 following a long and illustrious playing career, during which time he established himself as one of the top midfield players in Ireland.

Gormley’s career began at Bray Wanderers, after signing terms with the Co. Wicklow club in the summer of 1987. However, after just a few games with the club, English giants Tottenham Hotspur were alerted to his talent and lured the hugely talented midfielder to London in November 1987, just after his 17th birthday.

Opportunities were limited at Spurs and Gormley went out on loan to other clubs in order to gain first team experience. In 1990 he made the switch to Doncaster Rovers, where he became a highly influential player, winning the Player of the Year award in both 1991/92 and 1992/93.

After three seasons at Doncaster, Gormley opted to return to Ireland. Following a short loan spell at Drogheda United, he moved to St. Patrick’s Athletic in his native Dublin.

It was at St. Pat’s that Gormley would forge a reputation as one of the league’s top players, offering the creative spark to Brian Kerr’s all-conquering Saints.

Gormley was voted PFAI Player of the Year in 1995/96 after his performances had helped St. Pat’s to the league title. While the club only managed a 5th place finish the following season, Gormley captained St. Pat’s to two successive league titles in 1997/98 and 1998/99.

In 2000 his career came full-circle when he signed for Bray Wanderers, where he played for a further three seasons before retiring in 2003.

Gormley was appointed to the coaching staff at the Carlisle Grounds, before in September 2006 being unveiled as the club’s manager. He is a popular, young manager and is the process of building a very talented squad of young players at the Carlisle Grounds.
