Monaghan United's title hopes suffered a major blow and they wasted a chance to regain top spot in the table as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Limerick at Gortakeegan.

The best chance of the game fell to Monaghan on 68 minutes when Sean Brennan shot wide of an open goal.

Limerick then had their best opening right at the death. Monaghan goalkeeper Gabriel Save dropped a cross, but Garbhan Coughlan shot wide.
