| Derry City 3-0 Shelbourne |
| Saturday, 09 October 2010 21:52 |
|
Derry edged a step close to the First Division title and a quick return to the top flight as they swept ten-man Shelbourne aside at the Brandywell.
In-form Shels trip north was made all the more hazardous when they had defender Michael Coburn sent off on 32 minutes for a bad foul on Mark Farren.
Farren then shot Derry into the lead 12 minutes into the second half.
Patrick McEleney rifled a 20-yard shot past Shels’ keeper Dean Delaney on 64 minutes and sealed Derry’s win with a second eight minutes later.
Derry are now four points clear of Monaghan United who have a game in hand. The sides meet each other at Gortakeegan in the final match of the season.
