Ger Hnaley saved a late penalty to deprive Salthill of a point in a thrilling Galway derby at Terryland Park Hanley dived the right way to stop Victor Collins’ 87th minute spot kick after Dan Cunningham had fouled Robbie Porter. Substitute Enda Curran 70th minute goal thus proved decisive as Mervue came from behind to win this basement battle. Devon’s Mike Quirke rattled Mervue’s crossbar with a free kick on four minutes. But Mervue, who named an unchanged side for the first time this season, were the better side in the first half with Rory Gaffney ending a good run by firing wide just past the half hour mark. That counted for nothing, though, as Devon snatched the lead on 38 minutes. Cian McBrien’s ball put the suspiciously offside Collins in to round Hanley and slide home. Mervue deservedly levelled eight minutes into the second half when Mark Ludden’s shot-come-cross went in off the far post. Ludden then provided a super cross for Curran to steer a shot past Aidan Faherty for the winner on 20 minutes from time. |
