A hat-trick from Mark Farren eased Derry City back to the top of the First Division table as they trounced second bottom Mervue United 6-0 at the Brandywell.

Farren struck after just six minutes to fire Derry ahead when slotting home the rebound after Greg Hanley had saved his initial shot.

Fellow striker Stephen Parkhouse added a second on 29 minutes when bursting into the box to beat Hanley.

Farren added a penalty on 63 minutes before completing his trio eleven minutes later when scoring form Parkhouse's pass.

James McLean scored the goal of the night on 80 minutes when cutting in from the wing to shoot home.

Substitute Seamus Sharkey completed the rout three minutes from time as Mervue were hit for six for the second week running.
