A John Kearney goal gave Waterford United a 1-0 win over Wexford Youths in the southeast derby at the RSC, even though Blues finished with nine men.

Kearney's goal came on the stroke of the break. Vinny Sullivan flicked on Daryl Kavanagh's pass for Kearney to blast past Packie Holden.

Left-back Michael Coady was the first Waterford player to be sent off on 75 minutes, given a straight red card for a foul on Shane Dempsey.

Five minutes from time Coady was joined by Paul Murphy when sent off for a lunge on Ben Ryan, his second booking.
