Waterford United were the big winners in the First Division as they beat Mervue 3-0 at the RSC to reduce Derry's lead at the top to five points. A bizarre Mike Elwood own goal, when a clearance hit him in the face to loop over keeper Ger Hanley, gifted Blues the lead on 53 minutes. Paul Murphy doubled that three minutes later when heading home James O’Sullivan’s cross. Willie John Kiely provided the gloss with the third goal a minute from time. |
