Karl Bermingham scored twice as Monaghan United stay third in the table after victory over Wexford Youths at Gortakeegan.

Sean Brennan set-up Bermingham to shoot home the opener on nine minutes.

Niall Flynn then headed Monaghan 2-0 up on 24 minutes minutes from Brennan's free-kick.

Shane Dempsey pulled a goal back for Youths when his shot cannons down off the bar to cross the line nine minutes before the interval.

But the impressive Brennan restores Monaghan's two goal lead on 61 minutes when controlling the ball well before shooting to the net.

Jimmy Keohane, with a stunning free-kick, again gives Youths hope with a second goal on 77 minutes.

But Bermingham seals Monaghan's win when slotting home a penalty two minutes into added time.
