Mervue old boy Gerry Burke and new signing, Romanian defender Ciprian Straut, scored the goals as Salthill Devon won this Galway derby at Drom. Mervue were left to rue an early miss as they fell behind on eight minutes. Devon keeper Ronan Forde initially made a stop from Evan Connolly’s shot with Kevin Crehan driving the rebound into the side netting. Burke then put Salthill in front when heading home Daryl Horgan’s cross. Straut sealed bottom-of-the-table Salthill’s first official league win of the season on 71 minutes when racing away on the counterattack to rifle past Ger Hanley. The only blot for Devon was substitute Victor Collins being sent off five minutes from time for a second booking. |
