General Information
Founded in 1924, Longford Town F.C. were elected to the League of Ireland in 1984. Relegated to the First Division after their first season in the league, Longford spent several years in the second tier before establishing themselves as a Premier Division force following promotion in the 1999-2000 season.

The club has enjoyed particular success in cup competitions over recent years, claiming the FAI Cup in 2003 and 2004, as well as the League Cup in 2004. The club’s emergence as a force in Irish football occurred under the guidance of two well respected managers – Alan Matthews and his predecessor Stephen Kenny.
