Johnny Lafferty’s shot deflected past Town keeper Stephen Conlon to put Harps in front after eight minutes.
In a cracking game, Town levelled ten minutes into the second half when McDonagh poked home Cathal Brady’s right wing cross.
Two minutes later Peter Hynes turned in John Lester’s delivery from the other flank to put Town in front.
McDonagh got his second on 69 minutes when shooting home from another Lester cross.
Harps got a goal back on 77 minutes when Kevin McHugh put Davitt Walsh in to shoot past Conlon.
