| Wexford Youths 2 Longford Town 1 |
| Friday, 27 March 2009 08:38 |
|
Goals early and late from Gavin Doyle and David Miller gave Wexford their first points of the season as Longford finished with ten men. Youths went in front on four minutes when Brendan Murphy could only parry a Conor Sinnot shot and Doyle reacted to scoop home the rebound. Longford had the wind at their backs in the second half and equalised ten minutes in. Jason McCartney’s corner wasn’t cleared and defender Brian McCarthy shot to the roof of the net. But Youths responded and scored what proved the winner on 73 minutes when Miller’s cross-shot was fumbled into his own net by Murphy. Town defender Jim Sheridan’s vociferous reaction saw him given a straight red card by referee Padraig Sutton. |
