Philip Byrne got promotion favourites Sporting Fingal out of jail at the RSC with a late equaliser, seconds after they fell behind. Sporting wasted the only clear-cut chance of a poor first half on 26 minutes. Gary O’Neill worked the ball to Alan Kirby who fed Eamon Zayed, but the striker shot wide from six yards for a bad miss. All the action was then condensed into the 88th minute when Blues took the lead from a superbly worked goal. Seamus Long’s throw was flicked on by Graham Cummins and Gary Dunphy beat Darren Quigley with a shot from just outside the area. But before the minute was up, Sporting levelled as Blues fell asleep from a set-piece. Conan Byrne floated a corner into area and central defender Philip Byrne headed home. |
