Anto Flood hit the winner as Shelbourne, denied promotion with the last kick of last season, got their season off to a positive start at Tolka Park.

Shels took the lead on 25 minutes with a super goal. The prodigal Richie Baker skipped away down the right wing and Paddy Madden, on loan from Bohemians, rose to head home.

Youths hit back to level on 43 minutes when Gavin Doyle punished poor defending to rifle past Dean Delaney.

But Flood latched onto a Peter Hynes flick to volley the winner on 71 minutes.
