Karl Bermingham hit a late brace - to add to a hat-trick last week - as Monaghan came from behind to stretch their unbeaten run to seven games and move them up to fifth in the First Division table. Romanian striker Andrei Georgescu headed home Noel McGee’s cross from the right to give Athlone a 40th minute lead. But in-form Monaghan hit back to level on 82 minutes when Bermingham cut by Dave O’Connor to drill a shot past Barry Andrews from the edge of the area. Striker Bermingham then won it for Monaghan a minute from time when he turned home a cross from Cathal O’Connor for his 15th goal of the season. |
