Ronan Finn led by example to seal UCD’s win at Terryland Park and move them four points clear at the top of the First Division table with automatic promotion theirs to lose now.

Mervue had Rory Gaffney sent off eight minutes before half-time and it was no surprise that College took a foothold on the game to finally take the lead through teenage midfielder Paul Corry on 66 minutes.

But it wasn’t until five minutes from time that Finn shot home a penalty to secure the three points.

Defender Nigel Keady got Mervue’s consolation goal two minutes into stoppage time.
