Mervue came from behind to earn their first win in ten games to stun Athlone at Terryland Park. Â Athlone took the lead on 15 minutes when Austin Skelly tapped home Robbie Benson's cross. Â But Mervue were level with a quality goal on 23 minutes as Rory Gaffney surprised keeper John McGuinness with a clever lob from 35 yards. Â Substitute Evan Connolly put Mervue in front with his first touch on 74 minutes when powerfully heading home Mark Ludden's cross. Â Another super cross from Ludden brought the third goal for Mike Tierney who drilled home seven minutes from time. |
