Monaghan and Athlone had to settle for a point from a scoreless draw in poor conditions at Kingspan Century Park.

Town’s Austin Skelly had the best chance of the first half a minute before the interval, when, having burst through on goal, he failed to beat teenage Monaghan keeper Aaron McCarey who saved with his feet.

Barry Clancy came closest to scoring for Monaghan when his 71st minute shot came back off the Athlone crossbar.
