Greg Bolger’s first half goal moved UCD to within a point of leaders Shelbourne as Mervue stemmed the flood of goals at the UCD Bowl.

The westerners had leaked 19 goals in their last four games to slump to second bottom in the table, but frustrated College for good spells as, despite defeat, they’ll view this result as a morale-booster.

The only goal came on 36 minutes when midfielder Bolger burst through the Mervue defence, drew keeper Eoin Martin and confidently shot past him to the net for his second goal of the season.
