Longford Town 3-0 Mervue United

Jason McCartney scored his third goal in four games as Longford moved to within three points of freefalling Mervue.

Midfielder McCartney set-up the opening goal inside the first minute when his left wing cross found Adrian Murphy who headed home through the legs of keeper Eoin Martin.

McCartney doubled Town’s lead on 12 minutes with a  header from Michael Foley’s corner.

Foley was again the provider for Town’s third goal on the half hour as striker Derek Glynn’s cheeky back-heel flick beat Martin.

It was a fifth straight defeat for Mervue in which they’ve conceded 21 goals.
