Sporting Fingal kept pace with the leaders with a late strike from Ross Gaynor enough to beat in-form Wexford Youths at Ferrycarrig Park.

It was Sporting’s second smash-and-grab 1-0 raid in succession after they stole the points at UCD last week.

The goal came on 86 minutes when Gaynor met a Shaun Williams corner to head home.

Five minutes earlier Youths had Paul Malone sent off for a second booking, both for dissent.

Youths had also been aggrieved a minute before half-time when Cork referee Graham Kelly appeared to have given them a penalty only to change his mind.
