Skipper Ronan Finn scored a second half winner to keep UCD two points clear at the top of the First Division.

Athlone frustrated College for just over an hour when midfielder Finn struck to shoot home from the edge of the area from David McMillan’s pass.

Town had midfielder Kevin Williamson sent off by referee Phil Caschera a minute later for persistent dissent.

Ciaran Kilduff should have doubled UCD’s winning margin but had his 90th minute penalty saved by John McGuinness after Des hope had brought down John Reilly inside the box.
