Willie John Kiely scored for the third match in a row as Waterford eased up into second place in the table with a sixth successive victory.

Joe Mulcahy fired Blues in front two minutes into the second half when tapping home after Mervue keeper Eoin Martin could only parry a shot from Paul McCarthy.

Kiely effectively killed off Mervue’s challenge within five minutes.

Skipper Alan Carey’s ball in from the right found Kiely who showed good control before lobbing Martin from the edge of the box.
