Dundalk 1-0 Derry City
Friday, 03 July 2009 09:40

Dundalk kept their good run of form going by beating Derry City 1-0 at Oriel Park on Friday evening.

Alex Williams, who was making his debut for The Lilywhites, got the only goal of the game on 38 minutes after Michael Daly did well to flick the ball onto the striker, who instantly shot at goal and put his team ahead.

Sean Connor's side kept the pressure on throughout with Williams making a notable contribution along with fellow debutant Michael Collins, who was superb in midfield.

While the visitors kept fighting, it was the hosts that looked the more likely to score the next goal with Williams testing Gerard Doherty in the Derry goal with two good efforts.

This is Dundalk's fourth league win in a row, but it acts as a rare defeat for Derry. The Candystripes were missing a number of key players through suspension and injury.

Dundalk: Bennion; Shaun Kelly, Burns, Heary, Simon Kelly; Turner (Synnott, 89), Collins, Daly, O'Brien; Williams (Mulvenna, 92), Mansaram (Rowe, 70).

Subs not used: McGinlay, Coburn.

Derry City: Doherty; McCallion, Hutton, McChrystal (McClean, 68), O'Brien; Scullion, Martyn, Higgins, Stewart (Harkin, 79); Morrow, Farren (McManus, 70).
