Murphy delighted with Futsal win

Cork City have collected silverware for the first time this season after beating St. Patrick’s Athletic in the final of the Futsal League of Ireland. Two goals from Ian Turner and one each from Craig Duggan and Gavin Walsh saw the Rebel Army seal a 4-2 win after extra time.

Speaking to CorkCityFC.ie, manager Liam Murphy said: “I’m delighted for the club and for the players. We have a team of Cork players and most of these lads played for me at Under 20 level, before playing for Stuart (Ashton) who managed the team in the group stages in Limerick.

"It’s another trophy for Cork City FC and also gives us the opportunity to play in the UEFA Futsal Cup in the summer. We had a very focussed bunch of players and having had a great victory over Bray Wanderers yesterday, we stayed overnight last night before the semi final against Wexford Youths today. We were 3-1 down in that game with less than ten minutes to go, but fought back to win 6-3 in the end. St. Pat’s gave us a very tough game in the final, and they had a number of Brazilian players in their squad, but we came through and I’m delighted that we have won the competition.”
