| Top spot up for grabs at UCD Bowl |
|
The top two sides in the First Division meet at the UCD Bowl as UCD host Waterford United, with the winners guaranteed top spot in the league table. UCD's Greg Bolger will miss the vital match after picking up a knee injury shortly before last week’s league game away to Athlone. Sean Harding remains out with a back injury but Rob Creevy is available again having returned to training following an ankle injury. UCD had a tight 1-0 win away to Athlone Town last week and manager Martin Russell was pleased with the performance. “We have created plenty of chances in our recent games. The team is giving as much as they can. They just have to keep going,” said Russell. The UCD manager acknowledged that promotion rivals Waterford will provide a stern test for his charges. “They have had a great run and it’s going to be competitive,” said Russell. “We know they are a big physical side. They are playing football and scoring goals. We have got to be at our best to beat them this weekend.” Waterford, who have won their last nine games in all competitions, conceding just two goals. Indeed, only Sporting Fingal and Shelbourne have taken points off them this season, so tomorrow night's game is a big test of UCD's title credentials. Perhaps crucially, the Blues' joint top scorer Graham Cummins is suspended. |
