| Turning draws in wins is key for Fingal |

Eamon Zayed says Sporting Fingal need to turn draws into wins if they are to realise their ambition of a top three finish. ![]() Fingal are currently in fifth position and are unbeaten since their opening night defeat to Bohemians at Dalymount Park. However, four draws from their opening seven fixtures have curtailed their rise up the Airtricity League Premier Division table. Liam Buckley’s side have two wins under their belts – against Bray Wanderers and Drogheda United – but draws against Sligo Rovers, St. Patrick’s Athletic, Shamrock Rovers and Galway United mean they have been unable to rise higher in the league table. “It has been a mediocre start for us,” said Zayed. “We were disappointed with a few of the draws lately, we could have won a few of those games. “Bohemians are the best team by far in the League, but other than that I think that we can challenge, and be up there in the top half of the table. “We want to be in the top three anyway, that is our ambition.” Fingal nicked a draw from Terryland Park last Friday night when a stoppage time strike from Gary O’Neill saw them record a 2-2 draw against Galway United. However, Zayed admits that Fingal were fortunate to get anything out of the game. “We were lucky to get a point out of that game,” he said. “We didn’t deserve anything. In the second half they absolutely battered us. They had enough chances to win the game quite comfortably, they didn’t take them and we got out of jail. “I am delighted with the point because I thought we were going to get nothing out of it.” |
