| Sligo Rovers dominate local sports awards |

Sligo Rovers supply three of the category winners in the Sligo Weekender Sligo Sports Awards for 2009. Defender-cum-midfielder Danny Ventre, one of the key players in Sligo Rovers' run to last season's FAI Ford Cup final and one of manager Paul Cook's most popular signings, is the 'Soccer' category winner. Legendary local midfielder Tony 'Fago' Fagan, who starred for the Bit O'Red over three decades and captained the FAI Cup-winning side in 1983, is the 'Hall of Fame' recipient. Long-serving Sligo Rovers kitman Mickey Robinson is recognised for his dedication at The Showgrounds since the late 1980s he receives the 'Outstanding Service' award. Meanwhile, the 'Junior Soccer' winner is Keith Nibbs, a former Sligo Rovers forward, who was instrumental in City United's first Sligo-Leitrim Super League success. Fagan, Robinson, Ventre and Nibbs will be presented with their awards along with 14 other category winners at the 13th annual Sligo Sports Awards, organised by Sligo Weekender in association with the Clarion Hotel, which take place on Friday, February 26, at Sligo's Clarion Hotel |
