Rovers all set for Europa showdown

Shamrock Rovers take on Juventus in the first leg of their Europa League third round qualifier at Tallaght Stadium on Thursday and Michael O'Neill insists his team are ready for such a mammoth clash.

Having beaten Israeli side Bnei Yehuda in the last round of qualifying, the Hoops are high on confidence going into this encounter with one of the most famous clubs in European football.

O'Neill has a fully fit squad to choose from with the exception of Pat Sullivan (knee) and Dessie Baker (Achilles), so he will be able to name a strong starting XI as he plots an upset against Luigi Del Neri's side.

The match is completely sold out, although it will be live on RTE2 and on RTE Radio so there is still a chance to see the Premier Division club pit their wits against the mighty Juventus.

While the odds are stacked heavily against the Hoops, O'Neill feels that his team can cause an upset and has not abandoned hope of pulling off a surprise result.

"I think we have a group of players here that are capable of ruffling a few feathers in the Juventus team and who knows what will happen on the night," said O'Neill.

"With Juventus coming to Tallaght, in many ways, the pressure is off. We understand that it is important to give a good account of ourselves and we know that we are capable, particularly in Tallaght, of causing an upset.

"The longer the game stays 0-0 the tie is very much alive. At some point, obviously to get through we know that we have to score and our best chance of doing that is probably here in Tallaght."
