Bottom of the First Division Salthill Devon caused a mild surprise when holding Galway United to a draw in this western derby at Terryland Park.
A below par Galway were unable to shrug off the persistent Salthill challenge as the underdogs secured a Monday night replay.
Galway went close in the 12th minute when Tom King was unable to direct Rhys Meynell’s smashing cross on target.
Then on 17 Salthill were controversially awarded a penalty when Mikey Gilmore tumbled in the area following an apparent shove from Seamus Conneely.
Ciprian Straut took the spot-kick, but Galway goalkeeper Barry Ryan got down low to make a splendid save to keep the teams deadlocked.
Seconds later Salthill custodian Ronan Forde made a smart stop to deny a Gary Curran drive as Galway tried to land a blow.
Five minutes before the interval Salthill defender Gearoid O’Leidhinn cleared a Steven Walsh header off the line as the Tribesmen continued to probe.
The third quarter was short of incident until the 64th minute when Galway substitute Jason Molloy thumped over from 13 yards.
Molloy edged Galway ahead in the 83rd minute when making a headed connection with a tidy Karl Sheppard cross.
But Salthill came swinging back and grabbed an equaliser seconds later as Straut headed a Mike Quirke free kick into the top corner.

Salthill Devon: Forde; Whelan, Barru, Geraghty, O'Leidhinn; Horgan (Burke 66), Quirke, Porter, Gilmore; Straut; Collins.
