Drogs look to Hoops for inspiration as vital meeting called
Wednesday, 28 October 2009 09:27
Drogheda United are looking towards Shamrock Rovers for inspiration as they seek to transform the club into a non-profit, community club.

The Drogs recently announced that the current board of directors intend on handing full control of the club to the Claret & Blue Club and members of the Drogheda United Independent Supporters Club. A public meeting to be held tonight (Wednesday, October 28th) will see Vincent Hoey, former Chairman of the Drogs, outline the plans.

Drogheda United have appealed for "everyone who has an interest in the club and its role in the community" to attend the meeting, which will take place in the Tommy Leddy Theatre on Matthew's Lane.

Hoey will be joined on stage by first team manager Alan Mathews as well as Shamrock Rovers Chairman Jonathan Roche and Hoops General Manager Noel Byrne. The Rovers duo will offer advice to the Drogs fans on how to go about transforming the club in the same way that was done by the Shamrock Rovers 400 Club, who assumed control of Rovers in 2005 and have brought the club back to the top of Irish football.

According to a statement released by Drogheda United, "the agenda will cover the progress within the club in the past year, the present status of the club, the reasons behind the decision to propose transforming the club into a community club owned and directed by the Claret & Blue Club, the mechanisms for the transfer in ownership, the future of the club and its pivotal role in the community. There will also be a number of key announcements on the night."

Buses to the venue will leave United Park at 7:15 p.m. and McDonald's fast food restaurant at 7:25 p.m.
