Athlone through to First Round as EA SPORTS Cup kicks-off

The 2010 EA SPORTS Cup kicked-off on Monday night as Athlone Town defeated Longford Town 1-0 in the first match of the Preliminary Round.

 

A goal from Stephen Place was enough to give Athlone victory in the Athlone Town Stadium. Place struck on the 49th minute to help his side through to the First Round of the EA SPORTS Cup, where they will face UCD.

Two more Preliminary Round fixtures will take place this evening (Tuesday) - Castlebar Celtic will host Salthill Devon at Celtic Park (kick-off 8pm), while Monaghan United will host Shelbourne at Gortakeegan (kick-off 8pm).

The winners of the Castlebar Celtic v Salthill Devon fixture will face Finn Harps in the First Round, with either Monaghan United or Shelbourne facing either Tullamore Town or FC Carlow in the First Round.

Tullamore Town and FC Carlow will compete in the final Preliminary Round match on Saturday when they meet at Leah Victoria Park (kick-off 7.45pm).

 

First Round fixtures will take place on Monday 12th / Tuesday 13th April.
