TADHG Purcell’s first league goal and his second of the season failed to secure Cork City their first league win against Bray Wanderer at Turner’s Cross.
Dubliner Purcell netted with a great finish after be beat the offside trap to get on the end of Daryl Horgan’s pass and chipped it past Darren Quigley after just three minutes play.
But Jason Byrne’s excellent finish on 74 minutes made it 1-1 and drew the ex-Bohs man level on 182 goals with ex-Cork City star Pat Morley in the goal-scoring charts.
Tommy Dunne made five changes from the team that lost away to Derry with Healy, Purcell, Duggan, Spillane and Jamie Murphy all starting to the exclusion of O’Neill, Kavanagh, Sullivan, O’Connor and John Dunleavy who was ruled out with the ‘flu.
Bray made three changes with Adam Mitchell injured, Dane Massey suspended and Graham Kelly dropped to the bench after a 4-2 defeat to Drogheda as Mulroy, Knight and Sweeney all started.
Mark McNulty saved a 30-yarder from Byrne and Danny Murphy denied Bray an equaliser on 20 minutes when he bravely blocked Adam Hanlon’s effort in a lively, entertaining first half.
Darren Quigley made two good saves from Davin O’Neill before Byrne’s blast made for a share of the points in front of 2,888 fans at the ‘Cross.
