Lynch: Rebuilding will take time

St. Patrick's Athletic defender Damien Lynch has asked fans to be patient and stick with them as the Saints continue the re-building process.

The Saints have got off to a slow start, having won just four of their opening ten matches. However, Lynch believes it will take the club time to re-build and has vowed that results on the pitch will improve.

"From our point of view, we need to get it right on the pitch for the manager," he said. "He's come over here and he's doing a good job and we need to back him up in that.

"There's no magic wand you can wave. If we all stick together, be honest with ourselves and be honest with the game, then I think we will come through it. I've no doubt we'll do that."

The Saints challenged for the title last season but the Inchicore club has virtually an entirely new squad this season and Lynch says that it will take time for the team to gel.

"I was in my house the other day and there was a picture from Berlin last year and there were, not just playing staff but staff off the field, there were 26 or 27 people in that photograph," he said. "There's only nine left. That's a massive difference. You can't expect to go and win leagues with maybe 12 new players. It takes time to build again. It took Johnny McDonnell maybe four years to build that squad. I think we're starting to build again."

St. Patrick's Athletic face Cork City at Richmond Park this Saturday (May 9th) at 7.30pm.
