St. Patrick's Athletic begin their 2009 season tonight - and to celebrate their 80th anniversary the club is offering children the chance to gain entrance to Richmond Park for just 80c!
The club is hoping that the move will encourage more families to get involved in the League of Ireland. Club Chief Executive Richard Sadlier explains:
"We have been forced to make considerable cost reductions at the club but we are also aware that the recession is affecting everyone, including our own supporters. Hopefully steps like these will encourage more people and especially more families to come along and enjoy a match night and League of Ireland football at Richmond Park.
New St. Patrick’s Athletic manager Jeff Kenna faces his former club at Richmond Park when Galway United make the trip to Dublin.
The Saints are without Mark Quigley, Brendan Clarke, Stephen Maher and Bobby Ryan, while Jason Gavin is doubtful. Adding to their injury woes is the news that Jamie Harris, Dave Partridge and Gary Dempsey all carry suspensions from 2008 into the new season and will miss the opening match.
Galway United will be desperate to get one over their former manager. The Tribesmen are without John Russell and Jonathan Keane. Jay O’Shea will take the captain’s armband for the first time as Ian Foster’s side look to get off to a good start.
