St. Patrick's Athletic have strengthened their squad ahead of the new season with the additions of Gareth O'Connor and Kyle Moran.

The club announced the signings on Thursday ahead of Friday night's league opener against Galway United (Richmond Park, 7.45pm).

Ex-Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians midfielder O'Connor returns to the League of Ireland having spent much of the last decade in England with Bournemouth, Burnley and Luton Town.

Moran, who began his career with Manchester United, had a spell with Derry City before joining Institute and Newry City.

"I'm just delighted to get back playing again and I am determined to do well for St Pats," said O'Connor.  "I know I won't walk straight into the team here as there are lots of good midfielders already, but I can play out wide and in the middle so I know I can play a part."

Moran was equally enthusiastic about his new club: “The management team at St Pat’s was a big attraction. They’ve played the game at the highest level and I hope to learn a lot learn from them. There’s a very talented squad here and there is also Setanta and UEFA Cup football to look forward to this season”.
