North staying with Saints

DANNY NORTH has become the latest member of Pete Mahon's St Patrick’s Athletic squad to opt to sign a new deal with the Inchicore outfit.

Former Grimbsy Town striker North, 23, signed for the Saints midway through last season.

“I went straight from the English season into the Airtricty league last year so I definitely enjoyed the break and being at home with the family but it was long enough and by the end of it I was just looking forward to getting back,” North told stpatsfc.com.

“I finished season fairly well and ended up on 7 goals, I know it was a long season for most of the lads already at the club but personally I felt it was coming to an end just I was finding my form.

"Overall it was disappointing to finish the season with nothing, we missed out on European football when we lost to Sligo in our last game though they were probably the best footballing side in the league last year.

“I joined in the mid-season last year and was not too sure what to expect from the league but when you play teams so often you get used to the game here very quickly. To be honest in terms of quality I don’t think the Airtricty League here gets the credit it deserves.

“Looking ahead to the new season I wouldn’t be one for saying I am going to score x number of goals, I am just aiming to start the season well and try to score as many as possible.

"There is a lot more chopping and changing of players here than in the UK but Pete has managed to keep the spine of the team. He has brought a few players in as well and though we’re only just back in training and we haven’t done much ball work I’d trust Pete to bring in some top quality players.”
